Social Media. What a Swell Party This is!
Social media is like hosting a party.
This observation came to me while watching the comment section on a couple of Facebook updates I made yesterday.
What I found particularly cool was that these friends, apart from following me on Facebook, don’t know each other at all.
It’s like having a great party without the mess and cost.
What I find interesting about Facebook (and maybe soon on Google+) is that it seems to be a place where people actually converse as opposed to just leaving opinions.
Maybe it’s because since I don’t have that many “friends” they don’t get lost in the feed.
I especially like the fact that if it wasn’t for these social media platforms, my followers would never have had the opportunity to meet each other.
“Have you heard? What Brogan said.
That Google+ will be used instead.
Well, Did you evah?
What a swell party this is!”
This applies to the business context as well.
Companies should use social media as if they’re hosting a cocktail party.
Invite their followers to mix. Encourage the employees to mingle, make introductions and keep the conversation rolling.
But, in the same way we don’t expect a host to charge admission, we don’t expect a company to hustle us over hors d’oeuvres.
Been to a good party lately?
