About Ray

Ray 2013

I was born in Moncton, New Brunswick, and now live in Montréal, Québec. I left home after High School and went down the road to Toronto seeking fame and fortune. Arriving in Union Station,  I made my way to Yorkville (think a Canadian Haight-Ashbury) where my career trajectory took a six month digression.


Once the smoke cleared, I landed a job in the chorus of The Boyfriend and enjoyed a passionate affair with musical theatre which lasted fifteen years. Passion didn’t pay the rent on my humble flat so I swung on my backpack and went to University to study Film and Communications.


Not surprisingly, Hollywood wasn’t waiting for my next movie blockbuster so after a short stint as a donut pusher for Tim Horton’s, I got my first job as a restaurant manager. Being a multi tasker, I also got married and started producing children like a Ford assembly line. ( I have four great kids.)


If the world is a stage, then restaurants are a cabaret, old chum. I felt right at home. I managed various restaurants for nearly ten years; the last one being a French Bistro in Toronto; Le Charolais with my partner, Georges.


It was as a manager that I learned not only the operational skills of running a restaurant, but also the personal skills needed to lead staff and communicate with clients. It was also there that I developed my interest in marketing and advertising.


I left the restaurant business and returned to theatre in the late nineties as an arts administrator. Working for non-profit organizations gave me another skill set; how to survive on pennies a day and do cash flow analysis sans cash. It was in this setting that my communication skills were honed. The survival of the company and livelihoods of administrative, production and creative personal depended on the successful interactions with government funders, sponsors, volunteers, and industry peers.


I began my journey down the social media path three years ago when I reluctantly opened my first Facebook account.  I was amazed at its power to connect people. I have since immersed myself in the leading social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google Plus.


Now these platforms are part of my life and all of my work. With NewRayCom, my goal is to help people understand the personal and business value of using social media tools to build better businesses and stronger connections.

Landed on your post regarding the 5 things your profile should do.... Good advice there, Thanks for that. That post made me want to know more so I read your bio. I like the way it's written; very personable and it felt like we were having a conversation! You are a good example of creativity and I appreciate that.....thanks for that too!
