I know – social and caring in the same title may make you want to reach for an insulin injection, but give me a minute or two (5 minutes if you stick around for the video.)

I’m reading Gary Vaynerchuk’s The Thank You Economy and the concept of making the customer feel special keeps recurring throughout the book.

This is not a revolutionary concept. The problem is we’ve just been giving lip service to this since mid last century.

Customer service has devolved to such an extent that caring for clients morphed into just coping with clients.

Social media is changing that. But as there are badly run companies out there, there are badly managed social media strategies. For those companies that understand that just using social media does not make for a “social business”, the rewards will be great.
